SUSTAINABLE MOUNTAIN DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT–VIII
4-6th November,2019, Shillong

Under the aegis of IMI will endeavour to bring together some of the best and committed legislators, academicians, scholars, development practitioners, government representatives, NGOs and youth from the Himalayan region and beyond to come up with tangible solutions to the challenges faced by the mountain youths and rural communities. Various issues on rural livelihoods in the life of mountain farmers and youth entrepreneurship will be understood through this Summit and a road map will be designed to improve the livelihood and wellbeing of farmers, and develop strategy for promoting and youth entrepreneurship. It is time that long-term, pragmatic policies are evolved and governance mechanisms are aligned for sustaining agroeconomy and youth entrepreneurship in the Indian Himalayan region.

However, this humble venture would not be possible without the cooperation, partnership and support of various stakeholders, particularly the State Governments of the mountain States, as well as various IMI State Chapters under the overall aegis of IMI, New Delhi. Also, the roles of many multilateral and bilateral organizations together with the various agencies/institutions particularly in the state of Meghalaya, are crucial. Equally important would be the support of many donor organizations that have so generously supported earlier Summits. The SMDS-VIII also intends to engage the corporate sector in developmental issues, on the unique challenges of livelihood, sustainability and income generation of the mountain region focusing on and youth entrepreneurship.

MIMDI organized a 3-day national level “Sustainable Mountain Development Summit – VIII”from 4-6th November,2019 in Shillong in collaboration with Government of Meghalaya, North-Eastern Council, Shillong, Integrated Mountain Initiative , New Delhi, ICIMOD, Kathmandu, GIZ, Shillong among others and deliberated on the summit theme entitled “Sustainable Mountain Initiatives for Livelihoods and Employment for Youth” and finalized its recommendations for policy consideration by the govt.
